Featured Library: Liu Lin Elementary School

The Liu Lin Elementary School is located ten hour from Xi’an, in the Shaanxi Province. It is located in a very remote region only accessible via boat and a 45-minute hike up a mountainside.
The Liu Lin Elementary School qualifies as a Level 3 elementary school by the Lan Gao School Board. A Level 3 elementary school qualification is the lowest a school can receive by the Board of Education. Any funding a Level 3 school receives barely covers wages, rent for the school building and utilities. Most Level 3 schools have only one teacher, very poor school conditions, and receive no dedicated funding to improve the education at their school.
The Liu Lin Elementary School has an incredible group of teachers and administrators. The school Principal, Mr. He, pays close attention to the educational development of each of his 48 students in grades 1-6.
As a result of the school’s incredibly tight budget, the Liu Lin Elementary School lacked a proper school library. The Library Project provided over six hundred Chinese language children’s books, along with two bookshelves, a plant and a globe for Liu Lin Elementary School. The donated books were a wide range of high quality children’s books including: history, science, short stories, fairy tales, reference books and comics. We also provided a full set of children’s encyclopedias for older students and pinyin language books for the kids just learning to read. Librarian Training was also provided to all of the teachers and staff at Liu Lin Elementary School.
It really was an amazing day for everyone involved!
The Library Project made a clear IMPACT in the quality of education the children receive at the Liu Lin Elementary School.
